http://www.anzmi.net/crane/crane.html

CRANE Rex

Rex Crane, liar, fraud, wannabe and criminal

Rex Crane has received a lot of media attention over the past year; yesterday he was sentenced to prison, however, yesterday’s news is soon forgotten.

It is our duty to keep the story of Rex Crane in full public view, to illustrate the actions of the worst ever wannabe, fraud and liar in terms of monetary theft uncovered in Australia.

This exposure also illustrates the failings of the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) who were duped by Crane's criminal activities. A similar example of DVA’s incompetence is here  http://www.anzmi.net/brain/brain.html

Brain, just like Crane stole thousands of taxpayer’s money by fooling DVA into believing he was a Veteran, but it gets worse, our justice system deigned to give Brain no more than a limp slap on the wrist, in the same way it has given Rex Crane a monumentally inadequate sentence for stealing $690,000 from taxpayers. Crane was sentenced to four years jail, which is to be suspended after serving six months, he was also ordered to pay back the money that he stole, but at the age of 84 years it is something he will never do.

Notice in the first photograph that Crane is wearing a Jacket showing the motif of the ex Prisoners of War Association.  Here is a photograph of a badge from which the motif is designed. The blazer shows that Crane liked to proudly falsely advertise that he was an ex Prisoner of War.

Crane’s false and non existent military history would have prevailed for his posterity, if not for the actions of well known Australian author and military historian Lynette Ramsey Silver. Lynette is much admired by genuine Veterans for her work.  Lynette’s web site is here:   http://lynettesilver.com/content/view/26/34/

Following are the press releases that tell the Crane story.  Read how Crane was discovered in October 2009

http://www.theage.com.au/national/hero-to-zero-the-lies-of-a-pow-20091002-ggl2.html

Read below the final episode when Crane pleaded guilty and was sentenced.

http://www.smh.com.au/queensland/fake-prisoner-of-war-now-prisoner-of-the-state-20101221-193tk.html

One report says sympathetically, that Crane was a "prisoner of his own lies", what garbage, he is no more than a criminal and chronic liar who could have ceased his deception at any time during the last forty years.

No amount of contrition will earn Rex Crane a pardon from the Veteran community of Australia.  From this day on his only mates will be his fellow inmates in the Queensland Jail system.

Now that Rex Crane’s military history has been corrected, he will be remembered as a fraud, liar, wannabe and convicted criminal.

The one good thing that Crane has done is raise awareness in Australia of the presence of such people in the Veteran community.  Unless money is involved, Law enforcement, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Justice system don’t give a damn about wannabes, even though it is an offence against the Defence Act, to falsely pretend to be a veteran or to wear false medals. The maximum penalty for each of these offences is a $3,300 fine or six months in jail or both.

Here we have Rex Crane falsely claiming to be a veteran, wearing false medals and stealing $690,000 from taxpayers and what sentence does he get – six months jail.

If it wasn’t for people like Lynette Ramsey Silver and our organisation, fraud in the veteran community would be very extensive. Even though we hand all the evidence for offences against the Defence Act to Law enforcement they simply don't give a damn.

Despite the attitude of government departments, ANZMI relentlessly pursues wannabes without fear or favour. All reports concerning wannabes are treated with absolute confidentiality at ANZMI and all suspects will be investigated.

And by the way, we have another false Prisoner of War on our web site, although as far as we know, he didn't steal from the public purse his behaviour was just as infamous as Crane, see the entry on Victor Edward George Lyons who murdered the "Boy Bastard", here: http://www.anzmi.net/lyons/lyons.html

This is published in the public interest, particularly that of the Vietnam Veteran Community. All information presented here is fact and the truth. Reports from private citizens are supported by statements of fact and statutory declarations.

This just arrived via email:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/09/20/3016720.htm?section=justin

It is an 'ABC Online' article about ANZMI and their efforts to track down and name and shame wannabes. Good stuff.

There is also a mention of ABC's 'Foreign Correspondent' programme on Tuesday 21 Sept (8pm) about "Stolen Valour".

 8th Feb 2010

 16th Feb 2010

Noel Patrick “Molly” Muller served in the Royal Australian Navy from 16th January 1961 to 30 June 1966 he was discharged for the reason of being "Below Naval Physical Standards" (BNPS) three years before the expiration of the expiration of his service commitment. He remained a junior sailor for his entire career. Muller is the king of bluff, for many years he has insulted the integrity of the Royal Australian Navy RAN and created a mythical service history to portray himself as an heroic sailor who on one occasion, single handed, took on and defeated a Company of Indonesian insurgents. He later amended the claim of a “Company” to that of seven to ten men. Muller claims that he killed three of them before returning alone to HMAS Vendetta.  We have now located a photo of Muller and thank our readers for locating one

Totally agree with Shadow and 80's.

ANZMI was a subject of discussion recently at my ESO and despite some doubts about how they come by their information, almost without exception there was total support for what they are doing.

It seems the government doesn't care about the frauds so it is left to the veterans to something about it. Only those that have something to hide should worry about being exposed.

Everything I have seen on their site is backed up with photos and documents. Nothing I have heard on the various military forums from those named and shamed has changed my mind.

Onya ANZMI. Most vets I know and hear talking support ANZMI and so they should. I definitely do. The only people I have seen critcize ANZMI are the frauds who have been exposed AND THOSE WHO HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE and live in fear their names will be up in lights next. Nobody who is genuine has anything to fear. I openly say I have sent info to anzmi and helped expose one of the wannabes mentioned on their site and I don't regret it for one minute. While I took no perverse pleasure is helping and while I never run around the place boasting about this I received much satisifaction seeing this liar shown up for what he is. He still complains he is innocent with the support of the mad galahs. Does that support surprise me...nah. Yeah he is innocent just like Pol Pot is innocent. Keep on keeping on ANZMI and you have the support of most in the veteran community and wider community.

James Edward Patterson formerly of the Citizens Military Forces Unit, 33 Port Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers uses the email name of “Aussisoljer”, claims to have served in units that operated in Vietnam, signs emails as “an old Engineer” and is a master of allusion. He alludes in many ways to being a Vietnam Veteran and has also stated in writing that he served in Vietnam. He is a liar and a wannabe, who served in the Citizens Military Forces during the Vietnam war years and never went very far from Sydney. James Patterson has also cast his spell to the other side of the Pacific where he mixes it with Veterans from the United States. Read more here

Interestingly Michael Lund (Free Lance journo) includes ANZMI as a sideline comment to the story on Crane POW wannabe.

I have no problems if this attachment is distributed. Hopefully it arrives in the inbox of The Yellow Budgies.

On reading the Anzmi site on Liddelow, not withstanding his stupid behaviour ,can anybody tell me why he would not be entitled to ICB after serving as a Rifleman in SVN.  Just curious!!!

G'day,

A friend of mine sent me the item on Mr M (Mark) Stoove.

As soon as I read the name "STOOVE" and saw the picture it rang a bell.

This bloke did his Nashos with us at Pucka and was on my gun course at 123 Bty at Holsworthy in April '71.

We were in the middle of 'Reo Training' when we were paraded and told to pick a new training course because the Gov't had pulled the pin on Vietnam.

The only way he ever got to leave Sydney was from the Central Railway Station on the way to Woodside, SA, via Melbourne.

Just goes to show that there are some pretty sick mongrels out there who will do anything for some form of recognition, even though it is undeserved.  I hope he gets caught and humiliated for what he has done.

STOOVE Marinus [Mark] Johanes

26th Sep 2009
The case of the Lying Dutchman

Marinus (Mark) Johanes Stoove

Stoove is a well known “suffering” Vietnam Veteran in his hometown of Violet Town, Victoria. Stoove has spoken long and loudly of many horrible experiences in Vietnam. The problem is that Mark Stoove missed both the troop carrier HMAS Sydney (aka The Vung Tau Ferry) and the weekly QANTAS charter  to Vietnam and he is one big whining wannabe.

McCarthy Paul Warren
Bogus Cadet Corps

19 Feb
2005

Sometimes, you run across a person who tries to be seen as a “Big Man”, in the community, but in the case of this pretender, it would appear to be for little reasons, because this bogus Military Cadet Officer has an agenda relative to children and unofficial Cadet Units with alleged endangerment to those in his care.   He is still operating somewhere in Australia.  He was forced to move his operation through exposure for taking Cadets to the wrong side of the border at the beginning of the Timor crisis.  Read the full story of McCarthy's background and if you have children in his bogus cadet unit please alert the Police and Army units in your location as he is operating without the approval of the Australian Defence Force Cadet Corps.

NICHOLSON Michael John

3 Apr 2006
Michael John Nicholson, 39 years old of Bellevue Hill, as a highly decorated Australian Army Colonel commanding respect reserved for our loyal servicemen. .

The truth of the matter is that Mike Nicholson is an impostor who served one year with the Army Reserves before he was discharged in 1987. He was never an officer and never saw active service. He was also never awarded medals that he wore when masquerading as a Colonel.

BRAIN Joseph Arthur Hugh  5th Sep 2009

1 Commando

Citizens Military
Forces

20 Oct 2005
BUSTED But not to the standard required by Veterans.  Joseph Arthur Hugh Brain, of Bonville, NSW 2441, is a man who is a convicted habitual liar and fraud.  He believed he was a hero of the Vietnam war and claimed a false two week visit to Vietnam and further claimed he was in Alpha Company 4 RAR/NZ [ANZAC] Battalion, the last Infantry unit to serve in Vietnam.  This fool thought he was the greatest warrior of them all.   He has told stories of horrific sights he saw in Vietnam such as a US soldier standing on a land mine and an enemy soldier being shot through the head while he was out on patrol with the New Zealand Victor Company and 4 RAR,  but all the time he was really at home with his wife of the time, lying his head off to her about his SAS service and being an Army helicopter pilot.  This was wife number two of five that he has had.   One can only assume that the rest, like number two, bolted very quickly because of his lies and threats of violence towards them.   This hero is good at abusing women and threatening them with violence  but was very cunning not to open his mouth to any of the many veterans and CMF/Army Reserve soldiers who had served with him,  who attended the court trial, to see him sentenced.  In-fact this gutless man could not even hold the stare he tried on many of the servicemen in the gallery, the people he had lied and cheated throughout his career.

The complete story on this thief of Honour, Service Medals and Veteran Repatriation Benefits is here.  Click on the link below to see the current updates on the man and then visit our media section to see how he has been outlined by the Press.  The full story on Brain is an eye opener for everyone including Veteran Organisations, Military records offices and the Department of Veterans Affairs.    BRAIN

MORSE Ronald Leslie

19 Apr 2009

28 Aug 2009
Ronald Leslie Morse was a two year National Serviceman who served his full term in Australia. He maintains a high profile in the border town of Tweed Heads. He was nominated for Citizen of the Year in 2008. He is President of an ESO and involved in Senior Citizen activities in his area.  He walks with a swagger, his left shoulder sagging under the weight of six medals; if he were to wear his proper entitlement of two medals his posture would be much improved. more

SCOTT Ian

13th Aug 2009

Ian Scott the crooked Divisional Commander

In our hall of infamy we already have more than one wannabe from the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol and now we have Ian Scott of Bodalla, NSW. Before he was sacked from the position, he was the Divisional Commander of the RVCP base at Narooma , NSW,  who was big noting himself as a Vietnam and Malaya Veteran to his subordinates.

Normally those portrayed on this website who covet war service in the Army fraudulently portray themselves as ex Special Air Service (SAS), forward scouts in Infantry battalions or Combat Engineer "Tunnel Rats".  Not for Colin Campbell GIBBONS - he likes to dress up as a Vietnam veteran Military Policeman.

Richard benSerai. The case of the Kosher sailor.

Richard benSerai made a big statement to the Cairns Veteran Community on the 16th  April 2009.  He said:

“If you are having a religious service on ANZAC Day then be inclusive and allow Priests, Rabbis, Imams and monks to represent the various faiths who fought and often gave their lives for this country”

YOUNG James Wallace

13 Jul 2009
James Wallace Young wears a British General Service Medal and a South Atlantic Medal with Rosette (for service in the Falklands campaign). He has been seen wearing these medals at Navy Cadet parades in the Ipswich area of Queensland. Read more here http://www.anzmi.net/young/young.html

 PEDLOW David John

     13 Jul 2009
If you reside in the Nambucca Heads area of New South Wales, watch out for David John Pedlow.  If you come across him, ask him to display his bullet wound scar just under the rib cage. According to him he acquired the scar serving in Vietnam. Also you might tell him that his “mates” on Russell Island near Brisbane, where he used to live, are disgusted to learn that Pedlow is a liar and a wannabe. KIRKMAN Harry John
  07 Jul 2009

7 Aug 2007
Harry Kirkman insists that Two Hundred prisoners of war including women, children and aged persons were gruesomely and relentlessly tortured on the deck of HMAS VENDETTA between the 29th November 1965 and 4th December 1965. He also insists that sometime between 20 November 1965 and March 1966 a riot took place near a British naval base in Singapore in which a British serviceman was killed and crew from HMAS Vendetta were injured.  Did these events really happen or has Harry Kirkman concocted  a "story" to  enhance his war experience and gain benefits from The Department of Veterans Affairs for himself and others?  Full story here    http://www.anzmi.net/kirkman/kirkman.html

What about the bloke who went to one of the really early VVAA ( Vietnam veterans ACTION Asso ) as it was called when i was a committee member. This digger was still serving in army and was at Victoria Barracks and working in pay office. He blew around 40 grand and when he was caught he was blaming "AGENT ORANGE" for making him do it.
What a lot of bullshit some of these blokes come up with during those early day of the VVAA.
Another bloke i rang to come to the north sydney RSL as he was in the "Class Action ' in america sueing Dow Chemical company . He was needed to sign a document for the American lawyer Victor Yanaconi, he was all excited when i rang and then i told him he would have to come to the RSL to sign this paper and he then said !!! Oh shit i cant make it all the way there mate, let me know when we get the MONEY. The wanker loved at Chatswood just up the road from the RSL and too this day dont know if he got any money but if he did it wasnt because of any help  from me after that phone call. If you want to see some good ones go to the review boards site and check out the navy blokes claims .

How about the drop short who did his 12 months in Viet Nam, came home and spent 33 years in the NSW Fire Brigade and 'enjoyed every working day there'? He saw some horrific sights pulling bodies out of burnt buildings and smashed cars.

Yet, when he turned 55 (the magic age when super comes available) he suddenly developed PTSD from his service 35 years ago and was invalided out of the Fire Brigade on an acting Commissioner's pension and marched straight into Granville VVFA and walked out with TPI.

Or the communications bloke who did his 12 months in the funny farm, came home and served his full 20 retiring with his DFRB pension. He then became a civvy working for the defence dept and did another 20 years, copping another pension at the end of that. He has a unit in the country, one on the Gold Coast and one in a Victorian ski resort.

Again, after 40 years he suddenly developed PTSD and got his TPI.

And people wonder why it's so hard to get any joy out of DVA.

News

Your Tax Dollars At Work. Believe these ... or not ...
tall tales and true from unsuccessful claims on the public record

Case 1.    How about the ex-RAAF bloke who put in a claim for "cervical and lumbar spondylosis" in 1985, 39 years after it happened? He was posted from Pt Cook to Cooktown in August 1945. Rail to Townsville then ship to Cairns then road to Cooktown. The ship left Townsville on 22 August 1945 [7 days after the end of WW2]. He was then posted from Cooktown to Higgins Field where on 8 February 1946 he was "struck by a branch which fell from a tree". He told the Federal Court that during his trip from Townsville to Cairns the ship went outside the three mile limit [for 6 hours] and therefore he was entitled to "war service".
Would you believe that the Federal Court said, "The appeal be allowed with full costs and the matter be remitted back to the AAT for further consideration with law".

Case 2.     The ex-RAN bloke claimed Psychoactive Substance Dependence, Diabetes Mellitus and a Generalised Anxiety Disorder. He claimed his eight trips to Vung Tau were the cause and on the HMAS Sydney he had "no bunk, only a hammock and had to sleep on the mess deck" when he wasn't working in the Operations Room and that the 'scare charges dropped' caused him to believe that the ship would be "blown up".
The AAT said that his anxiety disorder was caused by his heavy drinking which started after he was discharged from the RAN in 1970 and that as his family had a history of Diabetes.
Case dismissed.

Case 3.     An ex-sailor took his case to the AAT because his claims for PTSD and Psychoactive Substance Dependence were knocked back by the VRB. He was a gunner on HMAS Swan in 1971 and was "scared and petrified" of floating mines and of Vietnamese 'frogmen' attaching mines to the hull during his 'first tour'.  [HMAS Swan was allotted for duty for 10 days from 4 Oct 71 to 14 Oct 71]. On his 'second tour' he recalled that he was "going back into it" and regarded himself as "lucky to survive" his first tour. [HMAS Swan was allotted for duty for 5 days from 8 Dec 71 to 11 Dec 71]. It would have taken a superman of a frogman to attach mines to the hull because HMAS Swan was always underway quite some distance off the coast and never anchored at any time.
The AAT dismissed his claim.

Case 4.     The 85 year old ex-RAAF type who claimed his dental cavities were caused by "drinking unfluoridated water" and complained he was not able "to maintain the level of hygiene that he would have liked" during WW2.  What he forgot about was that when he enlisted in March 1942 his dental chart showed he had 6 teeth missing, 10 teeth already filled and 4 teeth identified for treatment, 3 of which had already been filled.
Claim dismissed by the AAT

Case 5.     The ex-RAAF aircrew man who was posted to Canada from October 1943 to January 1945 for aircrew training [that's a lot of training]. Prior to his enlistment he had 14 teeth filled but he claimed that "due to unpalatable water supplies" he had to drink "Coca-Cola" during this period and this caused cavities in his teeth.
Would you believe that the AAT deemed his teeth cavities were 'war-caused'?

Case 6.     The ex-Army digger claimed that his "ischaemic heart disease" was 'war-caused' 42 yrs after the end of the war.
The Federal Court had no trouble in rejecting his claim.

Case 7.     The widow who claimed her husband's death from "carcinoma of rectum" in 1978 was 'war-caused'. Her late husband served 1942 to 1945 in the RAAF, did not have any 'operational service' and did not serve outside Australia.
The AAT rejected her appeal.

Case 8.     Believe this one .... an ex-Navy CPO claimed his "ischaemic heart disease" was 'war-caused'. He stated that he "took up smoking in order to relax during the passage from Sydney to Fremantle". Fremantle was the last port of call before the HMAS Sydney unloaded at Vung Tau. He also stated that "he was concerned for his own safety" during his time aboard the ship during its 2 trips to Vung Tau which totalled 39 days of 'operational service' of which only 2 days were spent offshore at Vung Tau.
Would you believe that the Federal Court accepted his appeal that his disease was 'war-caused'?

Case 9.     The widow who claimed her husband's war-caused disability of a "ligamentous injury to the right knee" was the cause of his death. She said it was because of his injury that her husband couldn't get out of the way when a car crashed into their house.
The AAT dismissed her appeal.

Case 10.     The ex-RAAF bloke who stated he "first experienced acute back pain during service at Point Cook in March 1945". He claimed his "ankylosing spondylosis" was 'war-caused'.
The Federal Court, said it wasn't.

Case 11.     The widow who claimed her husband's death in 1989 from "carcinoma of the colon" was 'war-caused' because he ate a 'high fat diet' for 18 months in New Guinea during 1943/44.
The AAT dismissed her appeal.

Case 12.     A Veteran died in 1977 and his widow remarried again later that year and the marriage lasted until she divorced her second husband in 1983. In 1992 she had the hide to reapply for a "war widows pension" in relation to her first husband's death.
The AAT also dismissed her appeal.

Case 13.     This bloke served in the RAAF from 1965 to 1968. he was allotted for duty in Vietnam but due to illness didn't go. Guess what?
His claim for entitlement as a Veteran didn't hold water.

Case 14.     The ex-Navy bloke who served from Jan 1973 to July 1974 (no operational service) applied to the AAT for a review of a decision that he was not entitled to a pension under the VEA.
He should have saved his breath. The AAT confirmed he was NOT entitled.

Case 15.     The 77 year old ex-Army bloke who served in New Guinea during WW2 and caught malaria. He claimed it was the cause of his "rheumatoid arthritis".
The Federal Court didn't agree and dismissed his appeal.

Case 16.     The Aussie bloke who served in the British Army February 1945 to March 1948 in India, Burma and Singapore.
His claim for entitlement under the VEA was knocked back by the VRB.

Case 17.     The ex-sailor who said that the increase in his smoking habit was "war-caused" when he served on HMAS Parramatta during its first escort trip to Vietnam. the ship was allotted for service from 25 May 1965 to 14 June 1965, a total of 20 days, and spent just 3 days in Vietnamese waters.
The Federal Court dismissed his appeal.

Case 18.     The bloke who served with the Occupation Forces in Japan from December 1946 to March 1948 and was stationed at Hiro which is approx. 12kms from Hiroshima. He claimed his "Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia" was war-caused by irradiation from the atomic bomb explosion.
Sure. The Federal Court dismissed his appeal.

Case 19.     The ex-RAAF bloke who had 'operational service' during WW2 claimed that by drinking un-flouridated water for 2 years, it caused cavities in his teeth.
Would you believe he took his case to the AAT on 15 December 2000 and it was knocked back. Again.

Case 20.     The ex-Navy type who put in a claim for PTSD. He was on board HMAS Melbourne in April 1966 when a Sea Venom (2 seater plane) missed the deck on landing and crashed into the sea. He claimed his PTSD was caused when he saw the "pilot trying to escape through the canopy" as the plane sank.
Both the pilot and the observer ejected from the plane at sea level (wonder who he saw?).
The AAT dismissed his claim.

Case 21.     Another ex-RAAF ground crew bloke who claimed his "Lumbar-Spondylosis" was caused when he jumped off the wing of a plane during WW2 and his claim was knocked back. Would you believe he appealed the decision.
The Federal Court told him, "appeal dismissed."

Case 22.     The 20 year old Navy rating on HMAS Derwent's last trip that spent 10 hrs off the front beach of Vung Tau while "The Ferry" was unloading/loading. He put in a claim for PTSD because the radar picked up an "unidentified" aircraft and he "panicked out of fear that the aircraft might have been hostile". The aircraft 'squawked' friendly 40 secs later. Would you believe he has lodged an appeal to the Federal Court because his claim by the AAT on 21 Aug 00 was knocked back?

Case 23.     The ex-nasho who had a history of epilepsy seizures before operational service in 1970/71 and then in 1998 had the hide to file a claim and state that his epilepsy was "war caused".
He didn't get it.

Case 24.     The soldier who "officially borrowed" a generator from his unit for use on a private camping trip hurt his back when lifting it on return to unit.
Believe this. The AAT determined that the injury, "lumbar sacral intervertebral prolapse" was defence caused.

Case 25.     The ex-Digger who put in a claim for "general anxiety disorder". His reason?? He used to play the bugle at military funerals in Japan in 1952 for several months and it upset him.
He didn't get it. The Federal Court dismissed his appeal.

Case 26.     The ex-Army soldier who put in a claim that his "adenocarcinoma of the prostate" was war caused. His operational service amounted to boarding a LST in Caboolture on 14 June 1943 and arriving in Townsville on 18 June 1943.
Would you believe that the Federal Court set aside the AAT's decision and ordered the matter re-heard?

Case 27.     The woman who worked as a civvie for the US Army Exchange Service (PX) for 16 months in Vietnam and wanted a "Service Pension"?
She didn't get it.

Case 28.     The sailor who put in for the "Extreme Disablement Adjustment" because he said conditions on board HMAS Sydney included "sleeping on the mess deck in the company of rats".
He didn't get it.

Case 29.     The woman who divorced her husband in 1979 and then put in for a "War Widows Pension" in 1982 when he died?
She didn't get it.

Case 30.     The ex-nurse who served in the Australian Army Women's Medical Service at Bonegilla in Victoria from Jul 44 to Aug 45 claimed her varicose veins were 'war-caused'.
She didn't get it.

Case 31.     The sailor who served on HMAS Vampire and lodged a claim for "Chronic Phobic Anxiety"? Although allotted for duty from 14 May 69 to 25 May 69, HMAS Vampire spent only 15hrs and 9mins in Vietnamese waters on 19 May 69.
He didn't get it.

Case 32.    The CMF soldier who visited Vietnam between 23 Jul 69 and 6 Aug 69 and claimed entitlement for a "generalised anxiety disorder" because he was billeted near a hospital where dead and wounded soldiers were brought in by helicopter.
Would you believe that the matter was remitted to the Tribunal for re-determination?

Case 33.     The ground crew member who served in the RAAF for 3 yrs in World War II  who spent less than 3 months in the Northern Territory and claimed for "operational service." During this time he did a trip to Melville Island for a day.
He didn't get it.

Case 34.     A former RANR officer who served in the reserve from 1950 to 1991 and joined HMAS Sydney for the 10th trip to Vietnam as part of his training commitment claimed his smoking habit led to Ischaemic Heart Disease. He claimed his smoking habit increased because he was afraid "a torpedo might hit the ship" and "being in danger of being shot by snipers from the shore".
He didn't get it.

Case 35.     The woman whose first husband died on active service in Vietnam in 1966 and was granted a "War Widows Pension". She remarried 2 years later, divorced her second husband in 1983 and then re-applied to have her War Widows Pension reinstated.
She didn't get it.

Case 36.     The sailor who stated that his ship, HMAS Sydney, was "unloading in Saigon harbour for 4 days" and he was armed only with "a .303 rifle and a whistle" and claimed for PTSD.
He didn't get it.

Case 37.     The Veteran who shot and killed 2 Sergeants in Vietnam (Christmas Day '70) said the shooting was the cause of his PTSD.
He didn't get it.

Case 38.     The Navy gunner who claimed for PTSD and said he used "his Browning machine gun" to sink a Vietnamese boat and the survivors were then machine gunned while he was serving on board HMAS Duchess on 28 Nov 68. There is NO mention of such an incident in either the ship's log or reports of proceedings.
He didn't get it.

 HAMILTON Harold

9 Jun 2009
Harold has lived around the back streets of Collingwood in Melbourne all of his life, where he has become an urban hero having starred in a Collingwood History Video and was paid tribute in the Federal Parliament on the 7th September 2006 by no less than Mr Lindsay Tanner MP the current Minister for Finance and Deregulation in the Rudd Government.  Hamilton deliberately allowed Lindsay Tanner to mislead parliament about his military service.  VAN ASSEN Jooitsen "Dutchy"

9 Jun 2009
Jooitsen “Dutchy” Van Assen fronted up this year to Tennant Creek ANZAC Day events, sporting an impressive array of medals, a Sandy Beret and some spine chilling stories. For our international readers Tennant Creek straddles the North - South highway in the Northern Territory and is well and truly in the “Outback” of Australia. Subject: ANZMI MULLER UPDATE 3 JUNE 2009

COURTESY   http://www.anzmi.net/muller/muller.html

 3 Jun 2009

Update Noel Patrick “Molly” Muller

Quote - Another Muller classic -  "you have no idea what it is to dream every night about hunting for enemy swimmers underneath a warship armed with nothing but a knife".

There is no doubt that all that has been said about Muller is accurate. Our information is based on what Muller has committed to writing and details from his Navy Service Record.  All his bluster was just urine and flatulence for he has not been heard of around Veterans circles since we published our report. We now have further evidence of what a raving bully boy Muller was in his hey day when he used his false claims of being a Naval Killing Machine and a damaged veteran to bully people wherever he thought it would be to his advantage.

Recently we received a report from a Muller victim, however as Muller found out he picked the wrong person to bully.

"I worked with a recognized church welfare group which provided computers to disadvantaged people within the Adelaide Metropolitan Area at a significant price Reduction, (about one fifth of new price).

“Molly” Muller was a client.  Molly, had a small problem with his new computer that was quickly rectified, (user error), by the Staff, but he was not happy.   He wanted a free upgrade to the next highest specification, plus a free DVD burner.   If he did not get it he would file a complaint with the office of consumer affairs. My staff gave him the upgrade, (but no DVD burner).   He called and abused staff in the basest terms and demanded even more.

I spoke to him, and asked him to put his complaint in writing to me, and I will investigate the matter and get back to him with a written response.     He was not happy with that, and he then proceeded to abuse me.   I told him to settle down and stop abusing me or I would hang up on him.   He kept abusing me and so, I hung up on him.

He then made a direct formal complaint to the CEO complaining that he was being discriminated against because he was a "War Veteran" who was suffering from PTSD. The CEO put the matter back into my lap.

When I called him and identified myself, (not mentioning my Infantry background), he told me that he felt as though I was personally discriminating against him because he was a War Veteran who had killed people, and that I, as a gutless representative of a Church based welfare organisation, was making sure  he did not get, what he felt was a fair go.

I explained that I was bound to offer him every assistance regardless of his background.   He said that "we had spineless swine like you protesting against us when we were in Vietnam", and that, "If I had had the Guts to have enlisted, rather than being an Anti War Protester", I might understand him a bit better.

I told him that I was sympathetic to his situation, his response was to say that, "you have no idea what it is to dream every night about hunting for enemy swimmers underneath a warship armed with nothing but a knife".  I told him that he was right, that I did not dream about those things, but that I actually understood more than he gave me credit for.

At that he told me stories about hunting for enemy swimmers underneath ships in Hong Kong, and of having fights with Russian spies under water, and of being swept away from his ship by a rapid tide and taking 5 hours to slowly work his way along his lifeline to get back to his ship.   Let’s just say that at this time he lost all credibility with me.   I know nothing about the work of Clearance Divers, but his stories were too fantastic.   He even cried and blubbered down the phone to me.   At the end of the conversation he asked me if I was going to give him everything that he asked for.    My answer to him was ”No.... You have already been given too much".   This sent him into a rare state.  Again he mentioned that "If I had had the Balls to smell the powder", I would understand how he felt.

It was then I told him that I had been a Regular Army Infantry Soldier for more than 20 years, and that I too had served overseas on operations.   He was very quiet for a while. Then he apologised for getting angry.  He then told me that he was happy with what we had given him.   I told him that if he wanted to complain higher I would happily pass on his concerns again to the CEO.   He did not wish to complain further.    Additionally he sent a letter stating that now that he was being looked after by a fellow Vet who understood his situation, he was happy that all issues had been resolved.

He used threats and aggression to try to intimidate my workers, who were scared of him due to his "killing people" stories.   All that evaporated when he realised that he was speaking to someone with detailed knowledge of what he was going on about.

How many people in other organisations has he cajoled and bullied using his "War Stories".   A good few I surmise!

I'm Glad that you caught him out in the end.

Regards,

Subject: THE MAD GALAH HYPOCRISY

Until Muller "disappeared" a few months ago after being publicly outed as a fraud and wannabe he was a vocal and high profile mad galah member who had much to say. He was noted for his appalling abuse and denigration of decent Veterans and others, including one high profile Vietnam Veteran who was Decorated at the Battle at Long Tan.

Muller was ever the moralist who painted himself as pure as the driven snow yet like all do gooders and moralists he falls far short of his own high standards and was using his condemnations of others as a smokescreen for his own shortcomings.

This is a common feature of all mad galahs leading lights. They condemn in others what they hide in themselves and they set high standards for others which they never live up to themselves.

Fair call, Anyway

I just read your posts Mowglii and seriously you know your whacking everyone and sundry. Did you ever set foot otside of Nui Dat or were you still hanging off the arses of 3RAR and 4RAR.

Mate i dont mind taking individuals out for their continuouse over exagerated bullshit stories that steal from their fellow veterans but some of your posts are talking utter shit. You may confuse the minority with some of your ramblings but get to the point.

F*** me everyone is an amateur soldier till that first round comes flying down range and even after that your still an amateur soldier.

Ok youve produced that Tate is fulll of shit with his own experiences i agree  some of itt is utter bullshit so do something about it to gain closure.

Les wrote;
"get to the point"

I'm not real sure what you want Les. Did I go outside the wire on warlike operations as INF for a period in excess of the continuous and or aggregate 90 day ICB requirement?  Yes.
Did I extend my 12 month tour to deal with some unfinished business concerning getting square for some mates of mine? Yes.
Do I turn on my computer late at night to question other vets when nearly every man and his dog including me had a couple too many beers earlier that day? No.

What point should I get to? Blind Freddie can see what I'm after.

What have you missed so far Les? Go to http://www.austvetmatters.net/updates.html and you can read nearly everything I've written on Don Tate.  When you've done that. come back here and make some sensible remarks instead of having a shot just for the sake of it.

If what you're after is to support Tate and call me a liar. go right ahead.

I haven't sat here doing 40-50 hour straight internet search sessions to make sure all "my facts" are "facts" and where Tate got his "historical (sic) facts" to have you tell me what to do, how to do it and when to get on with it.

I'll say it again. I will have every last vestige of this wannnabe blight on our history removed from public view. These things take time. Simple enough for you Les?

More to come on Tate and his wannabe mates shortly Les. Do try to stay awake so you don't miss it.

wait out

"Tell me the bit circled (see att) would have happened"  Hah!
This kind of thing appears too often and too close to ANZAC Days-Long Tan Days. Local hero's RSL bar tales are sometimes "leaked" to the local rag for an interview session and to set the wannabe up.
My suggestion would be to send the man's details to either AVM Admin  admin@austvetmatters.net  or direct to ANZMI  info@anzmi.net

M.

Mowgli,
I'm not interested in passing his details on. He was a reg (the reporter says he enlisted for 3 years national service). He did 2 months with 5 RAR and 8 months with 7 RAR.( That ties in with the VVNR) Sent home after 6 mine detectors fell on his knee causing damage to knee. He only wears his awarded medals, so in my books he's not really in the same class as other wannabees. All he's guilty of is titivating up his service for the reporter.

I can tell you though, he's already the laughing stock of the little town he comes from.About 60 klicks from me. News travels fast, and even in my little town we're having a good laugh about his story. Don't think I'd like to be in his shoes tomorrow when he fronts up for the Anzac day celebrations.

I think he'll choose his words more carefully next time (if there is a next time) he talks to a reporter.

G'DAY ALL

re the newspaper cutting, "whoops there they go again; 'sent out with SAS'" should ring alarm bells right away? The only SAS Dig i met incountry was a NZ who was shot by a mate. (left elbow - at 1 Aust Fd Hosp)
If any one wants checking i will check with 7RAR Pioneers, as i have contact with their Association?

Re jungle dress; if anyone from our platoon wanted to look like rambo; our Sgt (his 2nd Tour) would have ripped a new arse hole. Maybe in Nui Dat NEVER in the field, jiggle hat, sleeves down, most of us wore sweat rag to cover neck area.

The odd time we were made to "cam" up. I think it was when we had a new LT?
It did not last long. Anyone wearing funny cams or not following SOPs were regarded as a wanker.

Re Horse Shoe. Off duty; shirts off etc; no one real cared.
Photos of mine are on AWM data base of platoon at H/S.
On duty full gear as above, and all ways your weapon at hand.

I was Infantry too Cav. I only ever made one short trip to the Horseshoe so don't really know what may have been allowed ref daytime dress-wear.  Maybe someone here can tell us.
Tate reckons that particular bit of his film was from his month there with 9RAR (June 69, from memory) and that fits in with the water levels in the paddies he was dramatically gazing over. The time also suits his "Grenade" pose in the broad leaf grass.
BUT, new pack, new greens? And that over-sized headband hasn't seen a drop of sweat.
That "headband" is a worry. I've seen the exact same style on two other blokes, Ted Colmer for one in the Thua Tich photo holding (RPG-2) PG-2 grenade.  It's not scrim netting as was normally used, it's some sort of ASCO tea towel or something, doesn't look to be issue. He and his mates went to Vietnam dressed for war and bless them for it. However, "dress the part", "will pretend to do" and "film every moment" I'm sure you'll agree are not quite what the majority of us thought about before we got on The Ferry or Qantas charter.
Cav, this wannabes life has been built around his "My War" films, photos and videos. His whole reason for enlisting and taking the fast track (Inf Reo) to Vietnam was to pose for silly films and photos. How would you have liked this bloke watching your back in the scrub? He would've been too busy putting on his makeup.
He is "Don Tate, Wounded Vietnam Veteran"  Us lesser lights who were never WIA should pay homage. Don't criticise him, he'll make fun of your name. That's how intelligent this dill is.

In his film he was leaning against a tree gazing out over paddy fields. Don turns to walk up the hill, stumbles, and flashes the 30 round mag as you see in the photo.

Hey Mowgli
We NEVER went around the scrub without:
bush hat
Sleeves down
Webbing on
oh, and a rifle or something like that.

If we wore a bandy thing around our head those crazy Kiwis would have shot us!  Grin

I can see now why you guys are upset.  The film seems staged and he looks very unprofessional

Remember that hill well. Left a lot of bits and peaces around the area after a intrusive contact from some irate locals. Noggs appeared to think they owned the place, how ever L.J.Hooker sold it to us very cheaply and our Boss had the sale receipt to prove it.

The barrel was a bit on the light side but still a handy bit of kit for a short-on-numbers section to have. The 30 round mags were very popular with the SLR L1A1 fanciers.  Don Tate can be seen with one on his SLR in his "My War in clean greens and a new pack at the Horseshoe" movie aka "Death of an Ideal"  Starring Tate and filmed by some bloke who should have had better things to do.

M

Forgot to add.  Just before that frame in his flick, he stumbled.
The mention of 9RAR comes from his film, I doubt 9RAR and suspect 4RAR.

Cav...Reading about it in the Sydney papers was tough...no guilt, lots of sorrow at the time..still remembered fondly...The hootch was pretty empty when I got back to the PL...there used to be me, my sect cmdr, another sect cmdr and his 2IC ...the last two were WIA 12 June.
We took over from 2RAR blokes on the hill..They left their double hootchies for us...explained why the air gap between the layers..heatstroke..they had blokes dropping from it...a hard lesson learned by 2RAR but the solution gladly taken in by us lot.
When another COY of 2RAR flew into the Cam My LZ shown behind our lads in the pic, they threw so much smoke the helos had to back off for a while to let it clear...2RAR was going home so when I hitched a ride back to the Dat to go on R&R I threw smoke too, couldn't resist it. Some D&E blokes still remember that purple smoke, they thought the track had hit something.
Tate apparently left D&E under cover of darkness. The CQMS didn't want to admit he'd been drawing rations for that waste of space.

Sorry to hear about your`mates BC.  It must have been hard for you being away when they suffered.  I am familiar with that area having been there a few months earlier and we too suffered casualties.  Many of our guys are carrying surviver guilt over our losses.  They think that maybe if they should have done this or done that, things would be different.  They punish them selves over it.

I hope you do not carry any guilt by being on R&R at the time.  I hope you are well.

The man you mention might be T. (Attie) A. standing at left on top of the ARMCO.
Standing next to him also on top is M (Mick-Pommy) T. KIA 12 June.
Man bending over is P (Fred) I...WIA 12 June
To his right is D.H. KIA 12 June.
I went on R&R 10 June.

I think you might be talking about Attie. I phoned his Dad to make sure he got his plaque.
Every family of the five D&E KIA that day had D&E PL plaques mailed to them just after the Vietnam Memorial dedication in Canberra 1992.

G'DAY ALL

I am completely gob smacked and feel sick; after reading the "QUICK" story on the ANZMI Site; as a Digger i went to Kapooka with; - then we moved to the same Battalion, was KIA with D&E.

When we came home he went to D&E and was killed at that June 1971 incident along with 2 other from our Battalion. As i was on the detail that carried the Coffins; for 2 of the funerals in Country NSW.

We flew via Caribou from the old air stip, at Holsworthy; fortunately i was not sick those times; as i had been in other Caribou trips.

Attending those funerals was one of the saddest duties i have ever had to carry out as Digger.
Scum like quick need to be exposed, keep up the good work.

LEST WE FORGET

"The unit" being HQCOY 1 ATF. The reporters to CPMH numbered more than one.

Quick did 3 months of a 2 year sentence in the slammer. He's still under a 2 year bond.

This could be you Tate if you lied to falsely gain DVA payments. We'll wait and see, shall we?

KEVIN LIONEL QUICK ex 2792990  nickname ' Mother '  This story has been compiled by a D & E member who served in the unit at the same time as  "Mother" Quick.  The story you are about to read has been verified by other members of the Defence and Employment Platoon  [D & E Pl] and this is their true recollection of events.  All facts have been checked against military records by ANZMI and what you see here, is the real story.  more http://www.anzmi.net/quick/quick.html

Patterson was a regular on Allen Petersen's list. He liked to abuse vets and was given free rein to do so...more controversy for Radio Haifa.

I told Petersen that Aussisoljer is a VN Vet wannabe and all he'd was say "I know"

I wrote before that one day after realising Mother Quick had been pissing in me pocket all that time, I looked around at who I was dealing with and got some shocks. Patterson was one of them. This "mate" I'd been on long distance trips with on the NAMBUS was another scum wannabe who'd been pissing in me other pocket.

Yeah, Dog. I mixed with a lot of wannabes until I woke up from the "brothers-in-arms can do no wrong" dream.  Wannabes, scum like you that I wouldn't even piss on if you were on fire.

PATTERSON James Edward

22 Apr 2009
Read more here http://www.anzmi.net/patterson/patterson.html

He was nominated for Citizen of the Year in 2008. He is President of an ESO and involved in Senior Citizen activities in his area.  He walks with a swagger, his left shoulder sagging under the weight of six medals; if he were to wear his proper entitlement of two medals his posture would be much improved. more http://www.anzmi.net/morse/morse.html

The case of the Pathetic Pusser

We have been unable to locate a photo of Muller and seek assistance from our readings to locate one. more http://www.anzmi.net/muller/muller.html
